On September night of 1785, the merchant John Hankok wakes up a desperate knock on the door. The captain of one of his ships - “Calliopes” returned with a multi -month delay. However, he returned without “Calliopes”: Captain Jones sold the ship to buy a marvelous - stuffed mermaid. The news instantly spreads through London, on brilliant salons and smashed coffee houses.
