Anatoly Borisovich Mariengof (1897-1962) is better known to the modern reader as a prose writer and a memoirist, but he began in the stormy revolutionary years as a poet pointer who expressed his attitude to the changes in the country in shocking, often scandalous images. This period was also marked by the beginning of the friendship of Mariengof with another poet and also a large “hooligan” - Sergey Yesenin. It was Yesenin who became the main character of his “Roman without a lie” (1926) and the addressee of many poems.
In this publication, the three best novels by Anatoly Mariengof are included: the memoir “Roman without lies”, “Cynics” (1928), who appeared, according to Joseph Brodsky, “one of the most innovative works in the Russian fiction of this century”, and Shaved Man (1929) The last two novels have gone abroad and laid the foundation for the writer"s persecution in the 30s.
In addition, the book includes poems of different years, the tragedy of “Fucking Fools”, a small memoir prose and a programmatic article about the Imazhinism “Buyan-Stegs”
