German Melville (1819-1891)-an American writer who has entered the history of literature thanks to his famous novel Moby Dick, or White Whale. Nowadays, Melville is considered a classic of US literature, one of the largest figures of American romanticism.
Mardi’s novel and a trip there became a turning point in his work, since in it Melville first moved away from the usual topics and created a complex philosophical allegory, which turned out to be incomprehensible to readers and critics.
A young man who escaped from the ship during his wanderings in the ocean meets the beautiful girl Yilla and falls in love with her.
