The book presents the least studied or little -known works of the French prose of the 19th century (novel, diary, letters) translated in our country at the beginning of the 20th century, but forgotten due to certain reasons, including ideological ones. In the field of attention of the author, the history of literature and theoretical issues, in particular, about the aesthetics of the “personal” novel and the “frantic” letter, about the genre criteria of the symbolist novel and about the origins of such a method of narrative as a “stream of consciousness”. The attitude of writers of the romantic movement towards the political sphere of life is not traditionally considered. The book is addressed to everyone who studies or is simply interested in foreign culture, intellectual history and literature, especially French.
