Ivan Chonkin is one of the most beloved characters of Russian -speaking literature. It can only be compared with the Czech “colleague”, a brave soldier Schweik, but even this awkward hero loses to Chonkin in the incredibly of the adventures and absurdity of the surrounding (Soviet) reality.
What does not happen to this low -growing crooked -legged warrior! Stalin and Hitler learn about his incredible adventures, at the same time he is sentenced to death as an ardent enemy of Soviet power and to an honorary reward for selfless service to the Motherland. Chonkin becomes an involuntary participant in terrible backstage intrigues and, in the end, gets to America itself!
