Tokutomi Rock (1868 - 1927) - one of the most famous Japanese writers of the New Age. In his youth, he leads a violent intellectual life: he collaborates with newspapers and magazines, engaged in publishing, writes a lot. At the age of seventeen he accepts Christianity and even tries to preach, and in the mature years he travels to Jerusalem and visits Leo Tolstoy on the way back. This historical meeting will be crucial for the whole subsequent life of the writer: he will become a “Tolstoye” and will spend twelve years in the village.
