In the center of the novel is the Kremlin with its present and past, which, it turns out, has not gone anywhere, and the fear that has long been saturated with old buildings and which lives in the Kremlin walls so far. One of the main characters of the novel is the Kremlin clerk Dmitry Sergeevich. As a child, he managed to learn a lot about life in the Kremlin from those who worked there under Stalin, and now he himself, from the inside, watches the events and the Kremlin inhabitants. But there is another "clerk" who is there and also observing what is happening. And for many centuries ... other heroes of the work are real persons who worked in the Kremlin at the beginning of the nineties earlier, and, of course, the ghosts of the Soviet leaders and their environment. The novel takes place on the eve during the tragic events of the fall of 1993, as well as in the forties, fifties and eighties of the twentieth century
