Varlam Tikhonovich Shalamov (1907-1982) - prose writer and poet. His works from the Kolyma Stories cycle are a terrible document of the era, the study of the physical and moral degradation of a person in a labor camp. The ruthless prose of V. T. Shalamov about the Gulag is based on the circles of hell he passed in the forced labor camps of the late 1920s-1950s. After returning from Kolyma, he wrote more than 140 stories and essays. "Kolyma Stories", representing the merciless truth about the life of Soviet prisoners, consist of six collections of stories and essays. V.T. Shalamov insisted that whole works are precisely collections with the preservation of the order in which the stories are located. This book includes the first three copyright collections from the cycle - "Kolyma Stories", "Left Coast" and "Artist of the shovel"
