The island of Barrey is so small that only one family lives there. They keep cattle, catch fish and use everything that the waves are carried ashore. Their life is difficult, and nature is harsh and solemn. Barrey is a real island in North Norway, the novel is based on genuine events of 1913-1928. This is the first book of tetralogy about the Barre family.
