The epigraph to this collection of stories, the famous Swiss writer and playwright Peter Stamm (b. 1963) chose a quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: He looked out the window and saw a lot of people in some unfamiliar garden, he immediately recognized some.
Heroes of stories are wanderers and dreamers. The participant in the auto show Henry travels with the troupe of artists and wants to meet an extraordinary girl. Eric goes to work in Latvia. Regina, after the death of her husband, remaining in a large empty house, dreams that he would be full again, as in his youth, and the journey, which she will definitely make.
They live in America and Switzerland. Work in England and Latvia. Found in the Lisbon bar. And they are all constantly in anticipation. Trains are waiting, or love, or the return of a neighbor, whose garden blooms without ceasing.
Peter the strain always succeeds in a few words more than the other on three hundred pages.
