Sofya Markovna Makarova (1834-1888) was one of the first women who professionally engaged in writing crafts in Russia. In the 1860s, she successfully edited a popular magazine for her youth “Sincere Word”. Readers loved her simple stories. They always had hope for the best, on the fact that there are more kind people in the world than bad ones.
“Lenochka” is a shift in the story of the German writer Emmy von Roden “Lenhen Brown” (1883) The Russian reader Roden is well known from the stubborn story. Lenochka is a classic holy story. In the family of a little heroine, a cruel need reigns on Christmas Eve, there is not even money for bread. Therefore, Helen is taken to convey from the bazaar a Christmas tree to a rich neighbor in order to earn several coins on sweets. The girl is waiting for not only difficult trials, but also unexpected meetings that can change the life of her family.
The book uses four color illustrations from the pre-revolutionary book of the St. Petersburg publishing house F. A. Bitepage, made by Peter Wagner, and the black and white drawings of the modern artist Irina Lunina.
