“Restaurant‘ Hills ’” primarily a very elegant, unexpected, deep and subtle novel about the destruction of centuries -old structures. The main character serves as a waiter in the legendary old restaurant in the center of Oslo, is very proud of this and tries to follow one and a half century traditions in everything. He has a gift to see, hear and analyze everything. Behind the walls of the restaurant, one world war passed, then the second, almost without changing the set of the institution described in the novel virtually, with all memorable details. Every day watching the guests, the hero involuntarily draws himself into a difficult relationship between them. Matias Faldbacken is not just a master of style, he owns the whole comedy registry, from farce to soft irony, knows how to bring everything to absurdity, and his talent of the observer, the ability to admire the details create a very strange atmosphere of the novel: stability and constancy are no less fragile than manhing the rules
