The main character of the novel Heart is the mother of a newborn who has a heart defect of heart in the early days of his life. The necessary operation is postponed several times due to lack of places in the hospital. The baby’s condition is evaluated as uncritical, but the heroine snatches out of the stream of information only that which confirms her fears: so many children die, the operation does not help so many. From the maternity ward, her and her son is transferred to a children"s hospital, from where it will be excommunicated only for a couple of hours a day, in order to wander around the winter Helsinki in the dark - along the same route along the frozen bay.
