The leader of the Vatagi "diggers", he has the gift of "hearing" the earth and find the hidden in it. But the gift can turn into a curse. Ganin sees the rebellious souls of the dead soldiers, sees what was happening here 70 years ago, on the fields of war. Can a hero overcome temptations and his own fears? Will he not be able to forget that the land that was opened to him is needed not only for plunder? In the end, the novel is trying to answer fundamental questions: how can the past can change our present and future? For what purpose did we come to this world and why do we live?
