Vikenty Vikentievich Veresaev (1867-1945) - writer, translator, literary critic, critic. In his works of art, he described the life, spiritual searches and throwing of the intelligentsia at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries. In his work, V.V. Veresaev gravitated to the so -called "association with life". He was given great fame to him by the Autobiographical Material “Notes of the Doctor "(1901), and he became famous as the author of philosophical and documentary works about a number of famous Russian writers (F. M. Dostoevsky, L. N. Tolstoy, A. S. Pushkin and N.V. Gogol) The fruit of many years of work by V.V. Veresaev, the book "Gogol in life" was created on the model of the famous "satellites of Pushkin", which opened a new genre in Russian literature - a chronicle of characteristics and opinions. In this book there is no interpretation of events from the life of N.V. Gogol and its description with the help of artistic means, the author "mounts" historical evidence of contemporaries of the writer, the history of his time, life and morals of the era.
