The fruit of many years of work by V.V. Veresaev, the book "Gogol in life" was created on the model of the famous "satellites of Pushkin", which opened a new genre in Russian literature - a chronicle of characteristics and opinions. In this book there is no interpretation of events from the life of N.V. Gogol and its description with the help of artistic means, the author "mounts" historical evidence of contemporaries of the writer, the history of his time, life and morals of the era.
This collection includes descriptions of the childhood of N.V. Gogol, the beginning of literary activity and service in St. Petersburg, as well as the period of creation of the famous play "Examiner" and years spent traveling abroad
