1913. New York. The sixteen -year -old Luella and her younger sister Effie are brought up by parents in all severity of Victorian morality. And when Luella’s rebel disappears from the house, her younger sister Effie is sure that her father hid her in the "House of mercy for the bad girls", which was rumored to go about the monstrous rumors enraged by the disproves of the eldest daughter. Wanting to reunite with his beloved sister, young Effie, of his own free will, comes into a gloomy “haven for lost souls”, although for this she has to change the name and confess to non -existent sins. Very soon, however, she understands that she made a fatal mistake: Luella is not in the house of mercy, and it is almost impossible to break out of a fierce correctional prison.
