This novel, based on real events, has always invariably heads the rating of the most read books in China for almost five years. His heroine Fan Syzi is an alter ego author, a beautiful and well-read 12-year-old girl. A fifty -year -old teacher and poet Gokhua, who settled in a neighboring apartment, becomes a friend of the Fan family and offers free additional literature lessons for Syatsi.
Using his high status, the teacher arranges a circle of young admirers around him. He begins to meet with Fan Syatsi at home and in hotels: year after year, several times a week, until the girl gets into a psychiatric hospital.
