A collection of diary entries of a group of schoolchildren, which subsequently became known as “Writers of Freedom”. Memoirs are supplemented by the modern essays of heroes.
In 1994, a young teacher Erin Grell gave a class of difficult teenagers. Other teachers have long waved a hand at these hard -minded guys from dysfunctional families. At one of the classes, Erin intercepted a note with a racist caricature and angrily noted that due to such jokes, the Holocaust once had happened. What was her surprise when she realized that not a single student even heard about the greatest tragedy of the 20th century.
I need to change something, I decided Erin and rebuilt the entire curriculum, including the main antimilitarian works (such as the Diary of Anna Frank) Within the framework of new classes, students began to write their thoughts and feelings in personal diaries. They called their association Writers of Freedom. In the late 1990s, these diaries were published and dispersed by more than a million copies, and later they were filmed (the main role of the teacher in the 2007 film was played by Hilary Suonk)
