This publication includes the most significant artistic, memoir works of Sergey Timofeevich Aksakov (1791-1859) In general, these works, as it were, make up the history of the writer"s life. This determines the order in which they follow one after another.
S.T. Aksakov worked on “family chronicle” with large breaks for fifteen years. The writer faced not only censorship barriers, but also with obstacles that his own family repaired: relatives objected to the publication of the most sharp, accusatory places, which, in their opinion, could throw a shadow throughout the clan.
The publication of the family chronicle was an event in Russian literature. The success of this book was extraordinary and much surpassed the success of two previous works by Aksakov. “The“ chronicle ”of Aksakova,” wrote Herzen, “helps us to find out our unknown past.”
texts are reproduced according to modern norms of spelling and punctuation, while preserving the individual characteristics of the author"s style. All substitution notes, except for translations of foreign words, belong to the author
