William Trevor (1928-2016) is a classic of modern Irish literature, a recognized heir to Joyce"s traditions.
His stories deserved worldwide recognition, it was in this genre that the talent and skill of the writer most fully manifested.
In the book of the classic of Anglo-Irish literature, William Trevor, the most eminent and titled English-speaking storyteller, included twelve stories of different years, from the 50s to our time, and all about love. And all about the unhappy love. Involuntarily, you remember Tolstoy: "... Each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." And all the heroes of William Trevora are unhappy in their own way, "in their own way."
Inability to fight for their happiness, faithful to the classical covenant of Count Monte Cristo, the heroes of Trevor "are waiting and hoping" - or go from reality to their fictitious, familiar world. And not only love conflicts are interested in the writer - for Trevor, as, indeed, of any serious author, love intrigue - just an occasion to ask questions that are not - and there will never be answers. How to find yourself in this life? How to save the feeling? And how to learn to live not in a fictional world?
The prose of William Trevor Mololik and thin, the plots of virtuoso. At ten to twenty pages, this master of a short story manages to squeeze the amazing wealth and diversity - passion, humor, and tragedy.
