“English diary” is a story about the life of a Russian family in the southeast of England, which, thanks to the simplicity of presentation, humor and self-irony of the author, has turned into fascinating and exciting stories. It would seem that life in the resort town has a carefree fun, but often it is laughter through tears, nostalgia, sadness, loneliness, desperate attempts to survive in a foreign country - problems that almost all immigrants face. In addition, a super-ego author sometimes appears in this wonderful work, gives sensible tips or shoots well comments, which gives prose an extraordinary charm and color. Stories complementing the "English Diary" help the reader more fully to feel the atmosphere of English life. Novels from the life of gallerymen, scammers and art dealers of London create a special effect of presence in another environment and the complete impression that we have a model of classical English prose: family dramas, mysterious stories, secrets of English real estate and art market. The effect is enhanced by the dynamism of the narrative, the thoroughness of the descriptions of places and characters, shades of emotions, subtly noticed nuances of communication. But in other stories about children, adolescents and young people, we again find ourselves in the Soviet era-this is a colorful kaleidoscope of the scenes of Kyiv life, saturated with smells, voices and sounds of the past, which returns the reader in the second half of the 60s-early 80s of the last century
