The book tells about the events that took place in the deaf Tibetan village on the eve and in the early years of the "cultural revolution." The heterogeneous population of a happy village - Tibetans and newlyed Hanians, peasants and descendants of aristocratic families - live side by side, either helping each other, then slander and annoying those who were determined in outcasts. You have to pay a terrible price for this - two very different families cost the life of their children. But even a more serious test for the authorities, for the whole village and for each of its inhabitants, the indomitable element of a forest fire becomes ... In conditions of historical changes and in the face of a natural disaster, a new generation chooses its life path, involuntarily following the covenants of the elderly.
