1946, the post -war Hamburg lies in ruins. British officer Lewis Morgan is appointed interim governor of Hamburg and its environs. For several years he did not see his wife Rachel and his son, but the war behind and the family should reunite. The governor is settled in one of the few surviving houses of Hamburg - in a luxurious and cozy mansion on the shore of the Elbe. But his current owners live in the house - a German architect with his restless daughter. How will the recent death enemies, winners and defeated get along under one roof? And as Rachel will react to this, which has not recovered from the tragedy that happened in the war. Will the generous decision not be fatal for everyone not to expel the Germans from home? The pain from the survived losses, fear and thirst for revenge, the need for love and distrust intertwine into such a dense ball that only another drama can unravel it. "The consequences" are a story of love, betrayal and revenge against the backdrop of ruins, wrapped in winter silence. This novel does what they should do good novels: poses difficult questions, inviting the reader to answer them himself. The book is quite justified with the novels of Erich Maria Remarque, it is just as nicer and unpredictable.

A rapid and unpredictable journey into darkness and the light of the past. Ridian Brook wrote a brilliant romance.
Joseph O"NNILL, Writer, Laureate of the Fulkner Prize

Ridian Brooke created an amazing and anxious atmosphere of time, which cannot be forgotten about. This is a book that makes you think.
The Times

In the novel, a surprise follows a surprise. Brooke convincingly shows how the forces of history and big politics determine even the most intimate moments of people"s lives. The house on the banks of the German Elbe, described in the novel, is akin to Hamletovsky Elsinor. Sftyed, alarming, he hides the boiling of strong passions, which are the echo of the tragedies of the great story.
The guardian

This masterfully written romance places human history in the frame of great history. This book is like an old photo album - expressive faces framed by vignettok from the past.
The mail on sunday

Literary Review

The exciting novel by Ridian Brook tells a bright, full story on the background of a black and white world, consisting of shining snow and frightening military ruins. This story is anxious, imbued with compassion, full of energy and gives hope.
Claire Messud, writer, laureate of the Prize "Grant"

Brooke turns to important classical topics of literature: love, atonement, forgiveness, war.
Financial Times

sensual, sensitive and very beautiful book.
Peter Florence, director

They say that history is written by winners. But in this story there are no winners, like the vanquished, there are many feelings, compassion and desires of love.
Sunday Express

In the novel, romance and war were successfully connected. Bruka’s book, concise, but complete energy, exciting heart, but not sentimental, somewhat reminiscent of E.-M. Remarka.

I started writing when I was a little more than twenty. Then I worked as a copywriter in an advertising company, and I was struck by a complication after a banal flu. I had to quit, and for almost two years I stuck out at home. And I read it. It was then that I began to write stories. In 1991, Time Out published one story, and this incredibly inspired me. And after I returned to the usual rhythm of life, the idea of writing did not leave me. I continued to write stories and sometimes published them. Sometimes even quite solid publications, such as The New Statesman and Paris Review, and even the BBC radio were interested in them. And then I decided to sit down for the novel, which in 1997 published Harper Collins, he was called "Tylisne Jones" testimonies." The book received three awards, one of them is the prize of the Somerset Maugham. And a couple of years later, the novel was filmed, Jonathan Price played the main role. It was already a solid success. I became a writer. And he set about the second novel "Jesus and advertisers", which came out in 1999. And then after that I quit and became the writer at full rate. But the third novel did not go. Surrounded by failure, I switched to scripts, which I did for several years for the BBC. For two seasons, I was the main screenwriter of the "silent witness" and almost went crazy with this work. The army of salvation saved me - they suggested writing a documentary book about AIDS pandemic. I agreed and, together with my wife and two children, went on a nine -month journey. Africa, India, China. During the trip, I collected material for the book, and at the same time made reports for radio-4. In 2007, we returned home, and I returned to the scenarios, but I began to visit my thoughts about the novel again. I always wanted to write a book about the post -war period - based on the history of my own grandfather, who served after the war in Germany. But first I took up the script of a documentary on this topic, but gradually everything flowed into the novel
