Magdalena Toolie is a prose writer and a translator, one of the leading representatives of modern Polish literature. "Dreams and stones" became a "sensational debut" of the 90s. The story of a certain city (in which it is easy to find out the features of Warsaw) is an anti -utopia, a story about an unsuccessful attempt to build a perfect world. The grotesque rethinking of the facts of the twentieth century gave birth to a synthesis of parables and epics, jokes and poems. There are no heroes in the book. But there are stones in which people are trying to realize their ideal harmony, and dreams in which they try to hide from the surrounding chaos
