The book reflects the life and activities of vivid representatives of British diplomacy in the late XVII - early XVIII centuries of the middle group of George Stepnie and Matthew Prior, who were simultaneously recognized by the poets of his time. Both writers contributed to politics not so much by a bright poetic word as their colleagues in Peru, but by a real business in the diplomatic field. On the example of the official quarry of the steppie and the Priora, the author demonstrates how, by the beginning of the century, the figure of the ideal ambassador began to unite the spirit of the nobility with a new professional and official mentality. The book will allow the reader to trace how and how interconnected diplomatic and cultural practices were on the verge of the Enlightenment.
