The Island of Crimea was written by Vasily Aksyonov in 1977-1979 and was first published in the United States in 1981, after the author left the USSR. Brilliant utopia and at the same time anti -utopia, political satire, detective - all this is the “island of Crimea”. The plot of the novel is built on two assumptions: what if Crimea were a full -fledged island and what if during the civil war he went to the whites? The action of the novel unfolds in the 1970s. In the alternative history created by Aksyonov, Crimea turned into a successful state in relation to Russia. Nevertheless, the main character is driven by the idea of common fate, the idea of reuniting with Russia. His dream is carried out, but free Crimea is destroyed, absorbed in the Soviet colossus
