The continuation of the "thousand and one night" (1788-1789) is the last work of Jacques Kazot (1719-1792), the French writer, mystic, Kabbalist and Martinist, who, as contemporaries believed, had the gift of foresight. In our country, he gained popularity thanks to the primarily famous Gothic-fantastic novel "The Devil in Love" (1772, in 1967 he published in the series "Literary Monuments" as part of the collection "Fantastic Tales") The writer"s serious enthusiasm for the mysterious East and the deafening success in Europe of the French translation of "thousands and one night" (1704-1711), performed by Antoine Gallan (1646-1715), prompted Kazot to create the continuation of the Gallian vault. Since then, both fairy -tale meetings have been published together more than once.
The labor of Kazot is considered the most skillful continuation of the undertaking of Gallan. And this is not surprising, because the basis of his meeting, Kazot laid the original Arab manuscript of fairy tales specially translated for him, successfully combining them with his own stylization and adaptation for the modern reader. With the advent of new translations of various versions of "thousands and one night" in the European languages, they gradually forgot about the composition of Kazot. This edition is designed to make up for this gap.
This collection reproduces remarkable illustrations of Cleman-Pierre Marilier (1740-1808), created by him for the fairy tales of Kazot as part of an illustrations cycle for the famous French multi-volume code "Office Fei" (1785-1789).
In addition to the fairy tales of Kazot, the book publishes an essay on him Gerard de Nerval (1808-1855), accompanied by the classic engravings of Eduar de Beaumon (1821-1888)
