In the post -war London, a young writer Juliet is trying to find a plot for a new book, but she decisively does not want to write about the horrors of war, and other topics seem either boring or inappropriate. A case comes to the rescue - in the form of a letter of one pigster from the island of Gernssey. It turns out that even pigs love to read, and the unknown Dawsi, to which a book that once belonged to Juliet fell into his hands, asks him to advise him a good bookstore. Gernssey with books is now tight, since the island of all the years of the war was occupied by the Germans. So the correspondence begins, or rather, the novel in the letters between Juliet and the islanders. The history of the book club, which has become a cover for prohibited meetings of the inhabitants of the village, fascinates and delays it. A story that begins as a plot for a new book will soon turn into its own story ... This sad and cheerful romance is about wartime, but it is full of sun, light and joy. But who said that death and horror should always be in the first place? Sometimes even they retreat before a sense of humor and optimism. There is a wonderful phrase in the novel, which fully treats him himself: "Good books completely repel the hunting for bad."
