The hero of the novel is a poet student, Red Commissar and a patient of a psychiatric hospital Peter Vetna. Each time, falling asleep in the division of his commander Vasily Chapaev, he wakes up in the hospital for the insane ones. Peter is convinced that the hospital is the fruit of his imagination. However, Chapaev assures that both of these worlds are unreal and Peter needs to only finally wake up. But how to do this if instead of reality is a radiant emptiness?
