“Chapaev” by Dmitry Furmanov (1891–1926) is one of the most grandiose and most important novels of early Soviet literature, reflecting the formation of a great state. The legendary commander, whose fate was told by his combat comrade, became an example for many generations of Soviet people, and the brilliant film of the Vasilyev brothers immortalized the name of the folk hero.
