Irina Odoevtseva is known primarily as a poetess and the author of the memoirs “on the banks of the Neva” and “on the banks of the Seine”. In 1922, she left Russia and returned only in 1987. She, the last representative of the distant stroke century, had a chance to see her books published in the USSR. The return turned out to be triumphal - as if as a reward for all the hardships of emigrant life. In exile, Irina Odoevtseva continued to write poetry, but also turned to artistic prose and gained fame as the author of novels and stories. The prose of Odoevtseva, which has become a significant phenomenon outside of Russia, has long remained unfamiliar to Russian readers. Each novel or story is interesting in its own way, and in each of them the writer"s belonging to a new cultural reality is felt-to Russian Paris, who is longing for irrevocably departed times and with the hope of fixed to the future
