From the beginning of the 1950s to the mid-1970s, Jennifer Warf worked as a midwife in the poor London district of East End. In a city covered with scars of a recent war - dilapidated houses, wastelands and blocked streets - she recognized the stories of those who remembered even more severe times. Poverty and hunger forced people to look for a shelter in work houses, which were a real tragedy. Smarted families, exhausting work and cruel punishments for the offenses were their daily reality.
