The book "Call the midwife" - these are Jennifer Warf"s memoirs about her life and work in London of the 1950s. The young girl Jenny Lee, surprised at herself, is arranged by the midwife at the community of St. Raymond Nonnat in East Ende. Dirty streets with traces of a recent war, noisy docks, overpopulated apartment buildings, crime and extreme poverty - in the middle of the 20th century this area could not be called prosperous. The nurses and nuns of the community were then the only ones who vigilantly cared for women from poor working families. Working as a midwife, the author day after day watched the difficult life of these people, became a witness to their tragedies and joys and was convinced of the incredible strength of their characters.
At the end of life, Jennifer Warf wrote a striking book about that time, about nuns and ordinary East ends, the first story in the literature on the selfless work of midwives.
It is not surprising that the book "Call the midwife" has become an undoubted bestseller - at the moment, more than a million copies have been sold in the UK.
In 2012, the book was filmed by BBC. The series "Call the midwife" has collected more than ten million spectators from the screens and became the most successful dramatic series on the BBC One TV channel since 2001
