Sugar Konura
This novel was first published in 1984 abroad. But there is a feeling that it has been written now - the current problems of modern reality are so accurately reflected. Everything in it is recognizable, accurately and aphoristic. He is about the fate of a young writer who is forced to leave his homeland.
No matter how convenient and free life is abroad, young Vadim Solovyov dreams of returning to the USSR. Vienna, Rome, Paris, New York, Jerusalem-these cities are beautiful, but Vadim has nothing to do there ... The only thing he can and wants is to live with the happiness and pain of his homeland, to pass through his soul everything that happens to her, and write about it. Like a faithful dog, he strives home from everywhere, sincerely believing that his native Konura would be sugar in comparison with a foreign land. But is it possible to return? And will Vadim bring the desired happiness?

In ancient times, when tuberculosis was already learned to be treated, but not everyone had enough antibiotics, the journalist Vlad Gordin, who successfully drank from the army several years ago, was found in light tuberculoma. The 1917 revolution. Civil War ... And then, as in a fairy tale: three brothers of Veselovsky left the patriarchal Jewish place and went to create a bright future. One brother went to the red, the other to the white, and the third in the Gulyipol Republic. And their troubled time spun: one hung, the other beat, the third hunger was stuck ... And for whom it is true, whom to write down in the righteous, who in complete villains could not judge.
David Markish, using a literary technique characteristic of him, introduces the figure of historical personalities into the plot of the artistic novel: Nestor Makhno and Lev Zadov, Felix Dzerzhinsky and Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Emigrant and Vladimir Burtsev. But, of course, not this fascinating technique, but the author’s skill gives Roman "Polyushko-Paul" true historical sound.
To become Lutov
Judas Grosman from childhood dreamed of happiness for others. And in order to achieve it, he believed, you need to become the same as others, not like a Jew, and yet stay a Jew.
