Klaus Hoffer (b. 1942) - the famous Austrian writer and translator, specialist in the field of German and English philology, teacher. Laureate of numerous literary awards, such as the literary prize of Grats, the Alfred Dellin Prize, the Manuscript Award and many others.
The only novel by the author “At the Bireshi” (1979/1983) transfers the reader to the world of habitat of an amazing ancient genus-tribe called “Bireshi”.
Here, on the “edge of the earth” (on the deaf and as if falling out of the time the outskirts of Austria), the main character arrives in order to fulfill the times the bequeathed generic ritual - to live in the village during the year, abandoning his own “I” and accepting on himself the role and responsibility of a deceased relative.
Some pages of this hypnotic narrative will probably remind the reader of the works of Kafka and Kanetti
