The main character of the novel, Kroch, grew up in a commune, which in the seventies organized several dozen enthusiasts in the west of the state of New York. In the commune, they tried to live together, together to educate children, to eat what they raised themselves. But all utopia comes to an end. When the commune breaks up, the crumb goes into the big world and gets used to living in it, but fate turns in an unexpected way, and many years later the crumb returns to Arkady, which remained for him a place full of miracles, the place in which he believes
