In 2007, the journalist Sasha Batteny (b. 1973), a descendant of a noble Hungarian family, finds out that his cousin, Countess Margit Tissen-Battenia, was involved in a massacre in Rechnitsa, where 180 Hungarian Jews were killed in March 1945. Unraveling the tangle of family history, he faces another secret and searches for her solce. The search for the truth and the history of the family arise questions that are relevant for everyone: what influence the events that occurred seventy years ago have influence on us? Does the imprint on our lives are doing what they did - or what did not do - our parents, grandparents? What would we do in such circumstances?
In 2016, the book was nominated for the Swiss Book Prize, in 2018 I reached the final of the Kapashchinsky Prize, which is awarded in Warsaw for the best book in the genre of literary reporting
