Alexander Telishchev-Ferier-a young French archaeologist-devotes his life to the search for the ancient Sumerian city of Mede, destroyed by a flood in about the 4th millennium BC. Simultaneously with excavations, the hero writes a book based on the manuscript deciphered by him.
Two actions unfold in parallel: in Baghdad 2002-2003, shortly before the invasion of NATO troops, and during the Sumerian civilization. Two worlds exist as if in a mirror reflection, each has its own story, in which love, friendship, devotion and thirst for profit, lies, despair are intertwined. As in ancient times, the gods guard their treasures and will not stop at anything - human life is too little for them.
In the novel, the author very skillfully shows that a person is doomed to exist in an eternally decaying, crumbling world, it only seems to us that the world is constant, in fact, it is a shaky matter that is continuously transformed and built again. You can’t get used to it, you can only adapt to it in order to try to keep the memory of what was once a world that was dear to you by hook or by crook
