The old Russia is gradually leaving, a new one comes a little: millionaires, descending conditions, unanimated cohabitations, underground revolutionaries ... The pain from a strange disorder of the new life is shown through the eyes of Yakov Sofronych, a common person who serves in a prestigious restaurant by a waiter. A new life takes away from the waiter and children ... But so far neither the author nor his hero know that this broken and unreliable new life will soon die under the boot of the revolution of the 17th year.
