Initially, the modern style is described in the visual art and architecture - European and locally Russian. This gives the basis for finding aesthetic common denominator. Analysis of plots, topics and figures in the works of Leonid Andreeva and Mikhail Arzybashev, Maximilian Voloshin and Igor Northernina, Zinaida Hippius and Valery Brysov, - with constant attraction of examples from the Western European literature of the time, - allows the author to outline the uniform aesthetic contour of the Russian Modern.
