In the book "Model," Mortensen shares his rich experience in creating portraits and working with models. There is already a lot of literature dedicated to this topic. However, Mortensen's book stands out in this lineup. Unlike most modern guides, where you often see advice like, "do this and that, and a masterpiece is guaranteed," you won't find anything like that in Mortensen's book. He teaches the only possible way in art: he teaches how not to do it. He doesn't teach how to pose a model, how to position their body and other body parts. Because such teaching results in thousands of similar, though colorful, technically excellent, but absolutely faceless, empty, banal one-day photos. Mortensen leaves students complete creative freedom, only pointing out common mistakes that can ruin the impression of a portrait. Flip through and set aside (don't throw away) some glossy magazine. Read this book carefully. And then look through the same magazine again. You will feel like you are looking at it with different - open - eyes! You will notice a lot of mistakes that the classic Mortensen wrote about. And you will understand how to correct these blunders. And if you learn to photograph as he did, then it will be easy for you to take a photo in any style you need. Because a person playing Haydn will always play "Murka."
If you, the reader, are already engaged in photography and have tried yourself in portrait genre, you will surely find mistakes in your photos discussed in this book. Try at least not to make them.
