A book prepared by a doctor of historical sciences professor NIU HSE I.V. Krivushin and candidate of philological sciences E.S. Krivushina is a continuation of the first scientific domestic publication of documents and materials related to the activities of the famous French traveler and researcher Pierre Savornyan de Brazza. It contains documents and materials related to the third expedition (1883-1885) de Brazza in Africa (Gabon and Congo), which laid the foundation for the creation of the French colonial empire in Central Africa. The published reports, memoirs and letters of de Brazz and his associates contain unique information about the initial stage of French colonial construction in equatorial Africa, its main stages and features. They show that European colonialism - both at the level of the goals and principles that were proclaimed it, and from the point of view of its practice - was not at its early stage a purely unambiguous historical phenomenon. The mission to the African West, organized and led by de Brazz in 1883, was an attempt to carry out not forced, but a "peaceful colonization", and this attempt was very successful to the shift of de Brazz in 1898. The publication of documents is preceded by an introductory article, the texts are equipped with extensive scientific comments. For a wide range of readers, primarily historians, political scientists, ethnologists, culturalists, geographers, journalists, as well as everyone who is interested in the history of Africa and European colonialism
