Rene Reimond, known to the whole world under the pseudonym, James Hadley Chase, became famous in the genre of the “cool” detective. He left the family of a retired British officer, and his father forgave Rene"s career as a scientist. But at the age of 18, the future writer left his studies and left his parental house forever. He constantly changed his work and tried a lot of professions before he became an agent-distributor of books, thoroughly studying the book business from the inside. Subsequently, he recalled with irony: “... I had to knock at least a hundred thousand doors, and for each of them could meet any of the characters of his future novels ... and I had to get wet in the rain so much that now no one is able to get me out of the house In damp weather ... ”For half a century of writing, Chase created about ninety novels who enjoyed the unchanged success among readers of different countries, and about fifty of them were filmed.
