In 1943, by the Decree of the Council of People"s Commissars of the USSR, the Main Directorate of counterintelligence (GUKR) was formed as part of the People’s Commissariat of Defense (NPO) "Smersh" ("Death to spies!") In 2023, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of this structure, in a short time of its existence (until May 4, 1946) proved its effectiveness in the fight against enemies.
One of the true heroes of the Secret Front was Lieutenant Ivan Vasilievich Ryabov. His fate is unique: Ryabov is the only military counterintelligence, awarded a military cross with a silver star, one of the highest awards of France. Miraculously survived in a meat grinder of the first months of the war and being in German captivity, he did not reconcile his fate and ran away three times. Working at a mine in a concentration camp in France, Ryabov created an underground organization that made sabotage and acts of wrecking, organized a daring escape. Having made his way to Normandy, together with his comrades, he organized a partisan detachment. Partisans arranged diversions on communications, made armed raids on garrisons, and obtained the most valuable information about the German "miracle -armed" - rockets "FAU". The authors of the book - Nikolai Luzan and Joseph Linder - are well known to readers. By engaging in the history of domestic and foreign special services, they do not come up with plots, but reconstruct events on a documentary basis. Their work received a well -deserved assessment of professionals: repeatedly the authors became laureates of the FSB of Russia award for the best works in the field of literature and art that reveal the activities of domestic special services
