Was Belarus “partisan republic”, or was it the territory where the civil war was blazing? In his new study, Doctor of Historical Sciences O.V. Romanko tried to answer this question, analyzing the problem of Belarusian military collaboration during the Second World War. On the basis of extensive documentary material from the archives of Russia, Belarus, Germany and Poland, the author considers the military cooperation of Soviet citizens with the leadership of Nazi Germany and distinguishes its characteristic features, determines the causes and conditions that contributed to the creation of Belarusian collaboration formations. For the first time
in domestic historiography,

and their roles in the process of cooperation of the indigenous population with the German military-political leadership are described. A separate place in the book is an analysis of the characteristics of the organization, preparation and combat use of the Belarusian divisions of the Wehrmacht, the police and the SS troops. Finally, the author tried to show what contribution, both quantitative and qualitatively, were made by Belarusian collaborators to the military efforts of Nazi Germany. The book is designed for historians, teachers of universities, students and everyone who is interested in the history of World War II
