The book of Vladimir Grigoryevich Orlov (1882-1941), a real state adviser, investigator for especially important cases at the headquarters of the Western Front during the First World War, an outstanding Russian counterintelligence, is now almost unknown. Her author is a legendary personality. He investigated the case of the betrayal of the Minister of War Sukhomlinov, the case of the espionage of the gendarme colonel of Myasoedov and others. And his illegal work in the Cheka (criminal commission), where he was introduced on the assignment of General Alekseev, took place literally before the eyes of Dzerzhinsky himself. But, perhaps, the greatest affair of Orlov was the creation of an archive where the dossier was on many figures of the Soviet state, party functionaries, and the Comintern from all over Europe and America. The fate of Orlov is tragic. He died under mysterious circumstances, but there is an assumption that he fell at the hands of the Nazis, against whom he opposed the same sharply as against the Bolsheviks. The book is written excitingly interestingly. The reader will learn a lot about the work of white and red intelligence and counterintelligence, will feel the atmosphere of that distant era, the active participant in many events of which the author himself was
