The battles on Khalkhin-Gol, which lasted from spring to autumn 1939, call us a "military conflict", and in Japan-a "second Russian-Japanese war".
These were full -scale military operations, in which aircraft and tanks were massaged, practically rehearsal of the Second World War. At the initial stage of the battles, the Red Army made many command-organizational errors that allowed the Japanese troops, which at that moment had a rich combat experience, to seize the initiative. However, after the arrival of the Khukov’s CPC, the situation changed dramatically - a thorough "work on errors" was carried out, fresh reserves were pulled up.
The results of the battle were summed up by "hot pursuit" Konstantin Simonov:
Yes, it was not easy for us to win.
Yes, the enemy was brave.
The more our glory.
The book is written on the basis of real events. This is the last work of the great master of historical novels by Vladimir Pershanin - the writer died in January 2020. He wrote this book for several years, trying to capture the feat of the participants in the battles on Khalkin-Gol, one of which he brought in the image of the protagonist of the story-yesterday"s graduate of the machine-gun school, Lieutenant Vasily Astakhov
