History of the special services of the Russian Empire

The special services exist as much as the states themselves exist: any strong power is based on the protection of the state from the threats of external and internal enemies. Special services of the Russian Empire (secret office, separate gendarmes building, security department, counterintelligence) for more than three centuries ensured the safety of the power and strength of the throne.
The book presents unique documents and memoirs of the heads of secret departments of tsarist Russia, the predecessors of today"s FSB, GRU and SVR, from the time of Peter I to the beginning of the 20th century. The book will introduce you a whole gallery of portraits and fate of the Russian "guards" - from those known to everyone Dubelt and Benkendorf to much more closed and mysterious persons, the efforts of which the Russian state has survived during the most difficult tests.
The publication is illustrated by the works of classical painting.
