The book consists of seven historical notes, dedicated to episodes of military-frequency work until 1917. The author got so compressed with the era and his heroes that sometimes he takes himself to the offices of the pre -revolutionary Foreign Ministry. Two stories talk about “White General” by Mikhail Dmitrievich Skobelev (1843–1882), his combat comrades and some circumstances of the service.

The first is dedicated to the dashing to the merchant Alexander Egorovich Gromov, who was famous not only for the supply of a huge number of camels Skobelev, but also to participate in battles, as well as intelligence work in Central Asia and Mongolia.

The second story contains a complete description of all the awards of M. D. Skobelev and, based on archival materials, clarifies some episodes of his service.
The history of trips to Russia of the French President Falker (1841–1931) and Tsar Bulgarian Ferdinand (1861–1948) is associated with the preparation of military-political unions for participation in 1914-1918 in the first part of the World War. This story is complemented by a story about the Union of Russia and Romania on the example of the fate of the Romanian officer Kiritseko.
The novel “General Staff”, based on the memoirs of officers of the General Staff General Vladimir Nikolayevich von Dreyer (1876–1967) and Boris Mikhailovich Shaposhnikov (1882–1945), the future marshal of the Soviet Union, are devoted to pre -war training and military episodes of the First World War.
The book completes a detailed story about the pre -war cooperation of Russia and Germany in the field of military shipbuilding, which ended, after the outbreak of the war, by the charge of the leaders of Shihau in Spy
